Our latest Compact Disc is a recording of the Berlioz Requiem. The Croydon Philharmonic Choir is augmented by members of the Ealing Choral Society and the London Orpheus Choir and accompanied by the London Orpheus Orchestra. The tenor soloist is Michael Hart-Davis.

Below, you can listen to the Choir sing the second movement, Dies Irae, which forms the central section of the Requiem Mass. Berlioz splits it into a number of separate movements, beginning  softly and simply. The cataclysm is not long delayed and at the last trumpet the full forces of no less than 16 timpani and four distinct brass groups are unleashed to shattering effect.
